The University transport for students  impaired in mobility

General information about the University transport services

The University transport services are dedicated for persons impaired in mobility who move using wheelchairs or who have other kind of difficulties with independent translocation. The transport is performed in two busses adjusted for transport of persons who use wheelchairs. The busses have also  ordinary seats, so students who move with crutches can use them as well. Persons eligible for using the transport, are  allowed only for courses related to their academic activity - between a place of their inhabitation  and a place of classes. The University bears a cost of the transport.

In order to be able to use the transport services one should report such a necessity in a form of a filled up transport questionnaire and deliver to the OPD documents confirming one's disability: a statement on a degree of a disability and a medical documentation describing the current state of health. A decision of granting the transport assistance and defining its scope is made by the Manager of the OPD, on the basis of an opinion of the Transport Commission.

The work of the University transport is based on a graphic schedule of courses issued for  a given term. It is impossible to use these services by persons not qualified by the Commission. A person  qualified by the Commission is responsible for presenting a schedule of his or her classes at least a week in advance, before they start. If the student neglects to deliver the schedule of classes he or she will not be included in the graphic schedule of courses.

The principle of ordering services a week in advance concerns also reporting any changes and ordering additional courses during an academic year. Orders issued after this deadline are considered as requests for a change and realized according to a transport capacity.

The scope of the transport service is defined in the Regulations for using the University transport services granted for persons with disabilities on a basis of theDecree no. 28 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, issued on 28-th September 2006.

A supplementary service for the transport assistance offered by the OPD is an aid of transport assistants who help with moving round University buildings with architectural barriers not yet removed. [ read more ]
