Achievements

  • 23 buildings with fully accommodated architecture
  • 12 buildings partially accommodated
  • establishing of a lending facility of portable computer equipment and other assistive devices for persons with disabilities
  • fitting the University Library and the Library of the Faculty of Law and Administration with specialist computer equipment for the blind and impaired in vision persons as well as for persons with hands disability
  • establishing/modernization of 23 computer workstations for persons with disabilities in student laboratories
  • accommodation of 10 work posts for employees with disabilities
  • transforming an old-style spoken book library into a Digital Book Library and adaptation of two recording studios - a collection of 360 recorded books
  • establishing English language courses for students with visual and auditory dysfunctions
  • establishing of the University transport services - in the academic year 2006/2007 two busses carry more than 40 students with disabilities, performing more than 100 rides per day
  • performing about 1700 transport assistants services helping students who use wheelchairs to move around
  • a 20-fold increase of a number of students with disabilities (detailed data below)

Awards

 

  • The University of Warsaw received a special award in an architecture competition "Warsaw without barriers 2007" organized by the Association of the Friends of Integration and the Warsaw Municipal Office. The University was awarded for the whole of their activities for persons with disabilities. the award was presented on the 1-st December, during the Great Gala of Integration. The Rector of the University of Warsaw, Professor Katarzyna Cha³asiñska-Macukow took part in this ceremony.

    "Our success does not consist in a fact that we have done something for persons with disabilities. We are just one academic community, whose parts are students and staff - fully able and disabled. We are different, but we are together. Our offer is for all" - announced the Rector UW while receiving the award for the University.

  • 2006 r. The Honorary Council of the award „Warsaw Without Barriers 2006” granted the first place in a category "public utility" for the building of the Faculty of Law and Administration UW - Collegium Iuridicum III,
  •  

  • 2005 r. During a solemn Gala of Integration, in the second edition of the competition "Warsaw without barriers" there was granted a honorable mention in a category "historic building" for the building of the Former Library.
  • 2004 r. Grand Prix of the competition "Warsaw Without Barriers" for the building of the Institute of Polish Culture of the Faculty of Polish Language and Literature UW.
  •  

  • The Association of Higher Education and Disability Presidential Award 2003 - an award of the President of the AHEAD organization in the year 2003.
